Can ram move from win 97 to xp?

I have a windows xp computer with 2 ram cards 512 MB each. I want to speed it up. Can I take a ram chip from a windows 97/ 98 computer and put them in my XP? I have a bunch of old computers so i thought why not reuse the ram chips.
